Job summary

The Planet Group is seeking a Senior Substation Designer – High Voltage who will contribute critical design work for HV substations in a hybrid Atlanta setting. The role emphasizes extensive CAD design, interpretation of layouts, schematics, and construction drawings, with a focus on quality and accuracy.

Ideal candidates have 10+ years of hands-on substation design, strong AutoCAD capabilities, and familiarity with SDS/P&C concepts. Some relocation support is available for the right candidate.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of hands-on substation design experience preferred.
• Minimum 4 years of detailed CAD/design experience on high-voltage electrical substation projects.
• Experience in the electric utility industry.
• Strong AutoCAD experience.
• Experience with AutoCAD Electrical strongly preferred.
• Experience with Substation Design Suite (SDS) is a major plus.
• Experience with physical substation design and/or Protection & Control (P&C) design.
• Knowledge of major substation components, materials, and construction methods.
• Ability to develop and interpret: Physical layouts, Schematics, Construction drawings.
• Strong understanding of CAD standards and drawing quality control.
• Ability to read and interpret technical specifications and engineering documentation.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to drawing accuracy.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
• Comfortable working in a collaborative engineering/design environment.
• Willingness to travel occasionally for project site visits.

Location: Atlanta, GA

Work Arrangement: Hybrid – 2 days in office

Relocation: Available

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM with some flexibility

Travel: Limited travel for project-related site visits

What We're Looking For

• 10+ years of hands-on substation design experience preferred.
