Job summary

Duke Energy Corporation is seeking an experienced engineer to join the Substation Engineering team in Raleigh, NC. The role focuses on substation physical design, from concept through detailed layouts and bill of materials, for high-voltage facilities across multiple voltages including 13kV–500kV.

You will work on project teams delivering on time, under budget, and with compliance to safety and environmental standards. Hybrid work and relocation support may be available.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited engineering degree required; PE is preferred or eligible.
• Minimum 4–5 years of relevant engineering experience depending on level.
• Experience in transmission substation design and CAD tools highly desirable.

Responsibilities

• Provide engineering/technical expertise in transmission substation design and routing.
• Develop conceptual designs, cost estimates, and detailed electrical/structural layouts.
• Produce design packages, calculations, and drawings; support construction activities.
• Conduct studies, manage project schedules, and communicate findings clearly.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet safety, reliability, and compliance goals.
• Maintain standards via adherence to IEEE, NESC, NEC and company guidelines.
