Job summary

Electric Power Systems (EPS) is seeking a Commissioning Engineer to coordinate testing and commissioning of electrical distribution and transmission substations for utility clients across North America. The role involves supervising startup personnel and coordinating with contractors and engineering staff.

The candidate will perform field engineering, develop test plans, troubleshoot issues, and ensure compliance with safety standards and customer requirements.

Qualifications

• BS or 2 year degree in electrical engineering; experience with microprocessor type relays.
• Minimum 5 years' experience in electrical equipment testing and inspection, including high voltage applications.
• Knowledge of testing, commissioning and maintenance of power equipment.
• Excellent management and supervisory skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Superior Safety record.
• Broad experience with electrical apparatus used in the power industry.
• Experience in working in utility transmission substation is required.
• Able to pass a pre-employment drug screen due to this being a safety sensitive position.

Responsibilities

• Perform substation field engineering, including work plan preparation and project testing functions of Area Engineers in the commissioning of new or modified transmission facilities.
• Review, revise, and/or develop isolation and restoration work plans, prepare integrated functional test plans, and perform functional tests (lead AE review).
• Direct troubleshooting efforts, including plan development and execution to resolve functional test deficiencies.
• Prepare field change drawings, discrepancy lists and project closure packages within 30 days of in‑service date.
• Provide on‑site support to Design Engineering, Substation Construction and Transmission Service Center Managers on design philosophy and field info.
• Provide technical guidance on unusual or complex problems while maintaining customer standards.
