Job summary

The Health Federation of Philadelphia is hiring a Substance Use Epidemiologist I to provide epidemiological and analytical data support to the Division of Substance Use Prevention and Harm Reduction at the Philadelphia Department of Public Health. This full-time position involves data management, analysis of substance use-related datasets, and collaboration with various stakeholders.

Ideal candidates will have a Master of Public Health and strong analytical skills. Salary is set at $67,000 per year, along with a comprehensive benefits package.

Qualifications

  • Completion of a Master of Public Health Degree program at an accredited college or university in Epidemiology or a related field.
  • A minimum of two graduate-level courses in Epidemiology or two comparable graduate-level classes in advanced research methodology.
  • Two graduate-level courses in statistics or biostatistics.

Responsibilities

  • Abstract, clean, and analyze substance use-related datasets.
  • Perform routine data matches between substance use-related datasets.
  • Support the fulfillment of internal and external requests for data.
  • Maintain data collection systems for NAS surveillance.
  • Develop, maintain, and refine regular reports, data visualizations, and dashboards.
  • Obtain and manage Institutional Review Board (IRB) approvals when required.
  • Summarize analytic findings for presentation at scientific conferences.

Skills

Intermediate data management and analytical abilities using statistical analysis software (SAS preferred)
Experience with database development and data collection (e.g. REDCap)
Experience with mapping software (e.g. ArcGIS)
Ability to analyze, interpret, and communicate data
Intermediate data visualization skills, including dashboard and report creation
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Strong organizational skills
Ability to work as part of a team and/or independently
Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and manage project timelines
Knowledge of substance use, harm reduction, and drug-related terminology

Education

Master of Public Health Degree program in Epidemiology or a related field
Two graduate-level courses in Epidemiology or advanced research methodology
Two graduate-level courses in statistics or biostatistics
