Position

Substance Use Disorder Professional (2) – 2 Positions, Open until filled.

Location

Tiinawit, Department of Tribal Health – Yakama Reservation and surrounding area.

Compensation

Hourly Wage: $25.66‑$28.88 (Regular/Full‑Time).

Job Summary

The employee will be licensed by the Washington State Department of Health as a Substance Use Disorder Professional (SUDP) and will provide counseling and advocacy services to Native Americans residing on the Yakama Reservation related to chemical dependency.

Key Responsibilities

The Substance Use Disorder Professional will provide 60% direct face‑to‑face patient care and 40% case management. Responsibilities include:

• Work under federal confidentiality laws, 42 CFR, protecting client confidentiality.
• Utilize the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) patient placement diagnostic criteria.
• Comply with Washington State (WAC) code guidelines in all treatment activities.
• Facilitate structured group therapy and individual counseling, including relapse prevention groups.
• Provide educational presentations on chemical dependency, behavioral health Choice Theory/Reality Therapy, and Rational Emotional Behavior Therapy (REBT).
• Modify treatment plans on a quarterly basis.
• Maintain continuing education and state licensing requirements.
• Coordinate clinical activities with the treatment team and other staff.
• Facilitate transfers to outside treatment agencies.
• Refer patients for mandatory TB skin tests and other health appointments.
• Comply with Tribal and Federal policies and regulations.
• Maintain and secure active and inactive files, including background info and client records.
• Attend clinical staff meetings and provide formal clinical presentations.
• Coordinate with social service agencies.
• Implement assessment, treatment, continuing care, transfer, and discharge plans.
• Ensure all treatment files are current and confidential.
• Implement the deferred prosecution program.
• Monitor and facilitate client behavior/cognitive restructuring.
• Submit required reports to courts, Department of Licensing, and Department of Social & Health Services.
• Report non‑compliant patients to the appropriate authority.
• Assist patients in contacting necessary agencies or services.
• Make decisions based on client welfare, team success, and program quality.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Knowledge of chemical dependency addiction among the Native American population.
• Knowledge of ASAM Patient Placement Criteria.
• Working knowledge of inpatient provider contracts, agreements, and policies.
• Knowledge of post‑treatment crisis, relapse, and sober support.
• Knowledge of physiological actions of chemical dependency.
• Knowledge of Substance Use Disorder case management.
• Commitment to uphold professional counseling ethics.
• Knowledge of confidentiality laws related to patient care.
• Knowledge of Substance Use Disorder professional enhancement plan requirements.
• Computer proficiency (Word, Excel).
• Effective communication with social service agencies.
• Accurate documentation of patient progress and counseling.
• Evaluation and ongoing assessment of patients per PPC.
• Updating treatment plans and determining continued service needs using PPC.
• Development of a continuing care plan.
• Maintenance of continuing education requirements.
• Responsive to directives of supervisor and management.
• Additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

• Associate’s Degree in Human Services or related field.
• Certifications: licensed as a Substance Use Disorder Professional, registered counselor per Washington State Department of Health.
• Background check: Washington State Patrol criminal background check; pre‑employment background and drug test.
• No DUI infractions within the past four years.
• No substantial evidence of alcohol or substance abuse prior or immediately before employment.
• Current First Aid/CPR (or ability to obtain within 30 days).
• Valid Washington State Driver’s License and ability to obtain a Yakama Nation driving permit.
