Substance Use Treatment Master’s Clinician

The Substance Abuse Treatment Masters Clinician assures the delivery and provision of quality clinical substance-use disorder services to residents of Merrimack County who have called or presented to the Doorway and Choices – Concord for SUD services.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Provides crisis intervention and stabilization services to individuals in an acute substance-use-related crisis that requires immediate, non-emergency intervention.
  • Provide goal-oriented individual and group treatment for drug and alcohol addiction.
  • Conducts ASAM (American Society of Addiction Medicine) clinical evaluations, psycho-social assessments, clinical formulations and diagnoses to support an understanding of the level of care that the person requires.
  • Conducts assessments that reflect understanding of relevant developmental, cultural and family systems issues and diagnoses are consistent with DSM V criteria.
  • Uses ‘best practice’ approaches to treat clients with SUD including motivational interviewing, CBT, relapse prevention work, etc.
  • Treatment plans reflect medical necessity, client strengths, symptoms and functional impairments and the specific issues related to treating this population.
  • Client-driven goals and objectives are behavioral and measurable, consistent with clinical presentation and generally accepted standards of care or evidence-based practices.
  • Uses sound clinical judgment and is able to provide clinical consultations to staff in clinical crises.
  • Manages a caseload of clients based on program needs.
  • Monitors and evaluates client progress on an ongoing basis.
  • Makes appropriate referrals to community-based programs using the ASAM (American Society of Addiction Medicine) criteria. Ensures that there is a smooth transition to community treatment resources.

Education And/or Experience Requirements

  • A Master’s degree in social work, psychology, education or related human services field required.
  • A current NH license or ability to be licensed as a MLADC by the NH Board of Mental Health Practice is required.
  • Two (2) years of experience in providing substance-use disorder treatment preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license, personal vehicle, and auto insurance or access to a reasonable alternative are required.

  • Solid understanding of substance-use disorders treatment required.
  • The ability to read, write and communicate fluently in the English language is required.
  • A demonstrated ability to work with the public utilizing good customer service skills is required.
  • The ability to handle sensitive information with the utmost confidentiality is required.
  • The ability to engage clients and families with respect to cultural and linguistic differences is required.
  • The ability to organize and prioritize numerous tasks and complete them under time constraints is required.
  • The ability to endure periods of heavy workload or excessive stress is required.
  • The ability to work with frequent interruptions and respond appropriately to unexpected situations is required.
  • The ability to make judgments in the analysis of facts and conditions regarding individual problems to determine what actions should be taken within the limits of standard practice is required.
  • The ability to articulate information, news or ideas objectively is required.
  • The ability to maintain open communication promoting an atmosphere of cooperation and professionalism is required. Seeks, listens to and is open to the ideas of others.
  • Works collaboratively with outside agencies based on the needs of the residents
  • The ability to utilize active listening techniques to make a conscious effort to understand what people are really saying is required.
  • The ability to follow agency quality assurance and documentation standards pertaining to required timeframes for submission, completion of related forms in the agency electronic medical record (EMR) or other relevant system, and maintaining an acceptable quality of written work (i.e. legibility, grammar, spelling and content) is required.
  • The ability to develop areas of specialty clinical knowledge and skills to allow the implementation of evidence-based practices and to meet the needs of clients served by the program/agency.

Travel

Travel to various Riverbend sites, community locations, state agencies, or other locations necessitated by job duties is required.
