Job summary

Whole Village Counseling is seeking a qualified clinician to provide mental health and substance abuse services in Carrollton, Virginia. Applicants should have at least a Bachelor's degree in Psychology or Counseling and relevant certifications.

The ideal candidate will manage client cases, conduct therapies, and collaborate with service providers. This position requires effective communication skills and a thorough knowledge of substance use disorders.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, preferably with two years of experience in mental health services.
  • Certification as CSAC, CSAC-A, or other related substance abuse certifications is preferred.
  • Knowledge of substance use disorders and treatment methodologies.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Primary Clinician in developing clinical programs.
  • Provide direct clinical services including individual and group therapy.
  • Document client case activities for clinical and billing purposes.

Job description

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assists the Primary Clinician/IAC with the design and development of the clinical aspects of program services
  • Provides direct services in accordance with the Individualized Service Plans and other clinical documents
  • Reviews client files to ensure proper and complete documentation of actions and services
  • Manages a caseload of clients, making weekly contacts with client families
  • Participates in wraparound team meetings to enlist existing supports in determining and meeting service objectives and to identify additional resources and supports
  • Contributes to and prepares written service plan, incorporating input from clients, involved service providers, and wraparound team members, and clearly identifying problem areas and needs, strategies, and service objectives
  • Provides direct clinical services to clients, including individual, family, and group therapy, and issue-specific or educational groups (parenting skills, anger management, substance abuse interventions) in accordance with credentials
  • Documents case activities for both clinical and billing purposes
  • Prepares progress reports as required by referral source or service purchaser
  • Participates in interdisciplinary, diagnostic, and/or planning meetings
  • Collaborates and coordinates with internal and external case-involved service providers and professionals
  • Links clients with internal and external programs or services, such as health services, recreational activities, childcare services, financial resources, employment resources, childcare, mental health care, transportation resources, and others
  • Guides, collaborates, and coordinates with other agency staff regarding service strategies and case management, ensuring the adequate exchange of information and assigning of duties
  • Prepares written Discharge Summary and Plan
  • Advises Primary Clinician of the state of clinical services, its staff, and its needs and solicits Primary Clinician’s assistance in implementing solutions to problems
  • Ensures quality service delivery
  • Alternates 24 hour crisis availability with other team members
  • Other duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Counseling, or a related field from an accredited college or university; prefer two years experience providing mental health and/or substance abuse treatment to adults and/or children. Should hold certification as a CSAC, CSAC-A, Peer Recovery Specialist, or other related Substance Abuse certification/license. Demonstrated knowledge of substance use disorders, treatment methodologies, and related experience providing substance abuse services. Experience gained in supervised practicum/internship experiences will be considered.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities:

Thorough knowledge of principles and techniques of substance use and/or mental health counseling, case management and skills building; thorough knowledge of principles and techniques of basic interviewing and assessment skills; working knowledge of human services system, roles of human services personnel, and relevant community resources; ability to conduct and facilitate meetings; ability to form effective relationships with other staff; ability to maintain effective working relationships with other social services providers, service purchasers, and clients; ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Contractors or employees must pass a State Police Criminal Record Check, Department of Social Services Record and FBI Checks. The contractors or employees are also required to complete a Tuberculosis Screening Test or Tuberculosis Skin Test upon employment and a Tuberculosis screening test annually thereafter. Contractors and employees shall complete trainings in Human Rights, behavior management, CPR, and First Aid upon employment or commencement of any contractual services.
