Position Overview

The Chemical Health Specialist plays a key role in supporting students and families by providing early intervention, chemical use screenings, counseling, and resource referrals. This position is embedded in the school setting and collaborates directly with school personnel, community organizations, and families to support youth wellness and recovery.

Position Overview

The Chemical Health Specialist plays a key role in supporting students and families by providing early intervention, chemical use screenings, counseling, and resource referrals. This position is embedded in the school setting and collaborates directly with school personnel, community organizations, and families to support youth wellness and recovery.

Note: This position follows the academic calendar and includes summers off.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Conduct chemical use pre-assessments, short-term individual counseling, referrals, and follow-ups for students and families.
  • Participate in Student Support Team meetings and consult with school staff.
  • Assist students transitioning into or out of chemical health treatment programs.
  • Facilitate student support groups based on need.
  • Engage parents and caregivers to support students and connect them to community resources.
  • Provide community education on chemical health topics and represent Youth Service Bureau services.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and enter timely data into designated systems.
  • Participate in supervision and outcome data reporting meetings.
  • Teach Chemical Awareness Program classes as needed.
  • Travel regularly to multiple school sites within the district.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A. or B.S.) in Psychology, Social Work, or a related health services field.
  • Valid driver’s license, proof of insurance, and daily access to a personal vehicle.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Interest or experience in working with at-risk youth and families.

Preferred:

  • LADC or AODA licensure.
  • Experience working in school settings.
  • 1+ years of experience in chemical health or youth services.
  • Cultural competency and experience working with diverse populations.
  • Flexibility to work across multiple school sites with varying needs and structures.
