Job summary

Alamo Navajo School Board, Inc. is seeking an Alcohol and Drug Counselor within the Behavioral Health Services (BHS) division. This 12-month, full-time role focuses on delivering comprehensive substance abuse treatment and prevention services for adults in the Alamo community.

Responsibilities include intake screening, assessment, treatment planning, and providing individual, family, and group counseling. Qualified candidates will hold LADAC licensure in New Mexico, demonstrate bicultural

Qualifications

  • Associate’s, Bachelor’s, or Master’s Degree in Psychology, Counseling, or similar field.
  • Minimum one year of experience providing substance abuse treatment, with emphasis on direct service provision for clients with substance abuse/dependence.
  • LADAC licensure by the State of New Mexico within one year from the hire date.
  • Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing.
  • Ability to relate to professional, paraprofessional, and community people in a bicultural setting.
  • Experience with Native American clients; Navajo language fluency preferred.
  • If recovering from substance dependence, three years of continuous sobriety before hiring.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitates intake screening, assessment, treatment planning and outpatient treatment for adult clients.
  • Organizes day-to-day substance abuse treatment services with supervisor.
  • Acts as referral contact for intake and follow-up of clients referred to BHS for substance abuse treatment.
  • Prepares reports for referring agencies in compliance with confidentiality requirements.
  • Provides individual, family, and group counseling focused on substance abuse and dependence.
  • Works with a multidisciplinary team to identify resources supporting recovery.
  • Refer clients to residential treatment as appropriate and assist with intake/discharge processes.
  • Oversees continuing care and follow-up after treatment completion with a plan and case management.
  • Maintains client services records per BHS requirements.
  • Ensures data reporting to meet funding source requirements.
