Job description

Center Point is seeking an AOD/SUD-certified and experienced substance use disorder counselor to join our team. Counselors will be responsible for conducting screenings and assessments, providing individual and group counseling, developing and implementing treatment plans, and maintaining client records in compliance with regulatory agencies and funder requirements. Additional responsibilities include facilitating relapse prevention and continuing care services, offering follow-up and aftercare counseling, and providing case management services. Candidates must be certified by a State of California Accredited Certifying Board. This position works Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Provide counseling and treatment services to adults on probation who are experiencing substance use challenges in a supportive and structured environment.
  • Manage an assigned caseload of adults referred through Sacramento County Probation, ensuring accurate documentation of intake assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, billing, and discharge records in compliance with program and regulatory standards.
  • Provide individual and group counseling, case management, relapse prevention, and continuing care services to support participants in achieving their treatment and recovery goals.
  • Collaborate with Sacramento County Probation, program staff, and other service providers to support participant treatment, recovery, and successful completion of program requirements.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support program operations and client care.
Qualifications:
  • Substance Abuse Counseling Certification from a State of California Accredited Certifying Board is required unless the candidate holds an applicable professional license.
  • Prior experience working in a substance use disorder treatment program.
  • Strong understanding of Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) requirements and standards applicable to an AOD Certified Program.
  • Experience with evidence-based substance abuse treatment models and an understanding of treatment modalities is expected.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team and maintain compliance with treatment program policies.
  • Knowledge of community resources and services is preferred.
  • Experience working with justice-impacted, probation-supervised, unhoused, and at-risk populations is preferred.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and have a clean driving record.
  • Strong customer service skills, including active listening, problem-solving, and the ability to remain calm in emotional or high-stress situations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to listen attentively and convey information clearly.
  • Familiarity with the local treatment community and available referral resources is preferred.
  • Proficiency in computer skills, including word processing, email, and database management for general office functions.
  • Commitment to maintaining HIPAA compliance, adhering to professional ethical standards, and ensuring confidentiality in all client interactions.
  • CPR and First Aid certification required within 90 days of employment (training available if not currently certified).
Education:

A high school diploma is required; a bachelor’s degree in a social science field or equivalent relevant experience is preferred.
