Job summary

Austal USA is seeking a skilled pipe welder to join a team responsible for constructing and repairing marine vessels. You will read drawings, interpret weld symbols, and pass Austal 6GR and aluminum TIG tests to join the crew of experiened welders.

Applicants should have 1 year minimum as a B-class pipe welder at Austal or 2 years in a similar role, with the ability to onboard and pass required qualifications. Overtime may be required to meet ship delivery schedules.

Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year as a B-class pipe welder at Austal or 2 years in a similar role
• Ability to pass "A Class" skills validation test for restricted open root welds
• Complete onboarding procedures to pass 6GR weld qualification requirements for copper nickel, carbon steel and stainless steel

Responsibilities

• Read and interpret basic drawings and weld symbols.
• Pass weld tests for Austal USA weld procedures in the 6GR position.
• Maintain house-keeping and safety procedures; work with limited supervision.
• Maintain quality and communicate issues; support team goals and continuous improvement.
• Assist in training junior welders and contribute to timely vessel delivery.
