Job description

Responsibilities
Bring Your Submarine Combat Systems Experience to the Future Fleet

Arcfield is seeking a Submarine Combat Systems Engineer to help shape future capabilities for the U.S. Navy’s AN/BYG-1 Submarine Combat Control System. This role is ideal for an experienced submarine Fire Control Technician, combat systems operator, or engineer who understands how submarine weapons, sensors, tactical systems, and payloads come together in an operational environment.

You will bring real-world fleet experience into research, development, testing, and engineering efforts that support future submarine combat capabilities. Your operational perspective will help technical teams understand how proposed requirements, concepts, and technologies could affect the warfighter and submarine mission.

What You’ll Do
  • Support full-spectrum research, development, test, and engineering activities for future submarine combat systems and associated payloads.
  • Provide an operational submarine perspective on proposed combat system requirements, missions, system capabilities, and Concepts of Operations (CONOPS).
  • Translate fleet experience into actionable technical recommendations for engineers, program stakeholders, and future capability development teams.
  • Develop and review white papers, system requirements, Concepts of Operations (CONOPS), training guides, and other technical documentation supporting Future Naval Capabilities (FNC).
  • Participate in Operational Experimentation (OPEX), peer reviews, Cooperative Operational Experimentation (COOPEX), technical demonstrations, and other test or evaluation events.
  • Work directly with fleet operators, Chief Engineers, Technical Project Managers, and Program Office liaisons to communicate project progress, operational considerations, and technical direction.
  • Support evaluation of submarine missile systems, torpedo systems, combat control capabilities, and emerging submarine payloads.
  • Train and mentor teammates, sharing operational and technical knowledge across the project team.
Qualifications
  • Deployed submarine Fire Control Technician of the Watch (FTOW) experience; senior enlisted experience at the E-6 level or above is preferred.
  • Operational experience aboard a Fast-Attack Submarine (SSN), Guided Missile Submarine (SSGN), or Ballistic Missile Submarine (SSBN).
  • Hands-on experience with submarine missile systems, torpedo systems, weapons employment, combat control systems, unmanned aerial systems (UAV), unmanned undersea systems (UUV) and/or associated payloads.
  • Operational experience supporting missions within the United States European Command (EUCOM) or United States Indo-Pacific Command (INDOPACOM) areas of responsibility is highly valued.
  • Experience working in a collaborative engineering, development, test, or technical team environment.
  • Ability to communicate fleet operational needs and technical concepts to engineers, program managers, and Navy stakeholders.
  • Must possess and maintain an active U.S. Government Secret security clearance.
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree with 5–7 years of relevant experience; Master’s degree with 3–5 years; or Doctorate with 0–2 years.
  • Directly relevant submarine operational and combat systems experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
Candidates We Especially Want to Hear From

Former or transitioning U.S. Navy submarine Fire Control Technicians and experienced submarine combat systems professionals who want to take their at-sea operational knowledge and apply it to the development of future undersea warfare capabilities.

Why This Opportunity Stands Out

Instead of supporting only today’s submarine systems, you will help influence what comes next. This position provides the opportunity to work at the intersection of fleet operations, engineering, experimentation, and future capability development - ensuring new technologies and combat system concepts are grounded in real submarine operational experience.
