Job summary

Alfa Laval Mid Europe GmbH in the Richmond, VA area is seeking an assembler for gasket plate heat exchangers. You will assemble components, using hand and power tools, following blueprints and SOPs to build finished products in a fast-paced setting.

The role requires strong manual dexterity and attention to detail, with a focus on safety, quality, and clean workspaces. You will participate in 5S, crew collaboration, and continuous improvement activities across teams.

Responsibilities

• Receive daily work assignments and execute production per SOPs and blueprints.

• Identify waste and drive KAIZEN improvements.
• Perform 5S routines and cross-train across processes.
• Record data on quality documentation per company standards.
• Support ALPS continuous improvement programs.
• Cross train to support department demands.
• Pass Industrial Vehicle Test (Crane, Forklift).
• Lift raw materials and finished products safely.

About the job

As an integral member of our team, you will play a pivotal role in the assembly of our gasket plate heat exchanger. You will assemble components together to build finished products, requiring strong manual dexterity, attention to detail, and ability to follow blueprints/instructions in a fast-paced setting. Key duties include using hand/power tools, performing quality checks, documenting processes, maintaining a clean workspace, and collaborating with teams, often involving repetitive tasks. This is an important part of contributing to the overall success and growth of our organization.

Key duties

• Receive daily work assignments from the Team Leader / Team Manager and execute production with Standard Operating Procedures and blueprints as a base.
• Report any deviations (Safety, Quality, Parts, Equipment, etc.) to Status Boards immediately and update the Team Leader / Team Manager.
• Be active and engaged into the Daily Status Board Meetings by explaining the deviations and propose solutions.
• Review & suggest any improvements for the Standard Operating Procedures.
• Look into your own areas for waste (time, motion, transportation, inventories etc.) elimination opportunities and drive KAIZEN improvements.
• Engaged in daily & weekly 5S routines to achieve high 5S Standard and Sustain it.
• Constantly look for the cross‑training opportunities within different manufacturing processes & better ways to add value.
• Use the downtime efficiently to learn the new processes & run improvements from the status board activities.
• Accurately records data on quality documentation, components and product per company standards and/or customer requirements.
• Participates in the team’s continuous improvement and development in accordance with the Alfa Laval Production System (ALPS). Examples include 5S, Problem resolution process (PRP), and Total Preventative Maintenance (TPM).
• Using the SOP Matrix, will cross train to support any and all department or factory demands, as required.
• Will be trained and must pass Industrial Vehicle Test (Crane, Forklift, Joey).
• Lift raw materials, finished products, and packed items, manually or using lifts.
• Accurate & Consistent use of Personal Protective Equipment (Safety Glasses, Steel Toe Shoes, Gloves, Uniform others as required by the specific process).

Salary

The current hourly rate for this position is 23.50 hourly.
