Stylist in Training Job Description

The Stylist in Training position is a temporary role that provides an opportunity to explore salon operations, including but not limited to Brand Standards. The SIT plays an important role in ensuring guest satisfaction. By the end of the role, the Stylist in Training should have a thorough knowledge of our location, menu/pricing, products, and hours of operation, and be able to communicate this information effectively to guests both in person and over the phone. If the SIT obtains their license and demonstrates proficiency in the duties of the role, they will be invited to interview for a permanent stylist position.

Essential Functions -

1. Prepare for promotion to Stylist.
2. Answer the phone with a friendly greeting.
3. Deliver information clearly and cordially.
4. Greet guests cheerfully and explain menu services.
5. Estimate wait times and encourage guests to wait or return as appropriate.
6. Promote salon services and products on the leased line.
7. Achieve retail goals by interacting with customers shopping for retail products.
8. Recommend additional services and products to guests.
9. Operate the POS system, accept payments, give change, and provide receipts.
10. Listen attentively to guest complaints and refer them to the manager.
11. Keep the reception area, front desk, windows, product shelves, and floor clean and organized when not interacting with guests.
12. Assist with salon duties.
13. Label and stock retail products.
14. Work independently.
15. Shadow current Stylists to learn effective service techniques.
16. Watch training videos.
17. Perform supervised services on models where allowable.
18. Attend salon meetings.

Qualifications -

• Must obtain a valid cosmetology license within 90 days of hire in your state.
• Strong guest service skills.
• Good communication skills.
• Basic reading, writing, and mathematical skills.
• Computer knowledge, including point-of-sale systems.
• Professional appearance and presence.
• Ability to travel to work and arrive on time.
• Ability to work flexible shifts, including nights and weekends.

Physical Requirements -

The physical demands must be met by an employee to perform the essential duties of this role.

• Effective communication with team, peers, supervisors, and support partners.
• Effective communication with guests regarding services and understanding guest needs.
• Visual observation of guests' hair, including close vision, color vision, and focus adjustment.
• Frequent standing and walking for long periods.
• Exposure to chemicals and fragrances used in services, including but not limited to waving solutions, straightening solutions, shampoos, conditioners, hair spray, and perfumes.
• Repetitive movements with fingers, hands, wrists, and arms.
• Occasional climbing of ladders or stepstools.
• Occasional lifting of items up to 50 lbs., including pushing/pulling styling chairs.
• Reaching shoulder level and above to stock shelves and retrieve supplies.
• Twisting and bending to sweep hair off the floor.
• Travel when needed for training or between salon locations.
