Job summary

Carimar Salon Group is seeking a stylist-in-training to join our team in a temporary role designed to develop a future licensed stylist. You will learn in a dynamic salon setting, deliver excellent customer service, and work toward licensure within the state.

Promotion to stylist is possible after obtaining the required license and demonstrating our core values: honesty, accountability, integrity, and respect, with duties including cutting, styling, coloring, waxing, and hair care as allowed.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in an accredited cosmetology program.
• On track to obtain the necessary license within 90 days.
• Able to work in a dynamic salon environment.
• Good time management skills, ability to multitask.
• Strong communication with customers, co-workers, and management.
• Basic computer skills including POS systems and data entry.
• Flexible schedule including nights and weekends.

Responsibilities

• Market and grow the business.
• Observe and learn from stylists and managers.
• Provide exceptional customer service.
• Promote and sell services and retail products.
• Answer phones, stock, dust shelves, and sweep hair.
• Complete all other duties as assigned by manager.

A stylist-in-training is a temporary position designed to integrate an unlicensed, future stylist into the salon workplace and to help them learn the business. It is the stylist-in-training's responsibility to deliver exceptional customer service and to communicate effectively with management, customers, and co-workers. Specifically, the stylist-in-training's job duties include:

• Market and grow the business
• Observe other stylists/managers at work and ask relevant questions
• Provide exceptional customer service
• Promote and sell services and retail products
• Answer telephones, stock and dust shelves, and sweep hair
• Complete all other duties as assigned by manager

The stylist-in-training may be eligible for a promotion to the stylist position once they receive their license. A promotion to stylist is not automatically guaranteed. To be considered for the promotion, the stylist-in-training must: 1) recieve a valid appropriate license in his/her applicable state of employment; 2) have the ability to perform the duties of the license requirements that their state allows, including, but not limited to: cutting, styling, coloring, providing wax treatments, and washing and perming hair with or without an accommodation; and 3) demonstrate that they practice our values of honesty, accountability, integrity, and respect.

Qualifications

• Must be enrolled in an accredited cosmetology school
• On the road to obtaining the necessary license(s) to perform salon services within 90 days
• Ability to work in a dynamic salon environment
• Good time management skills, good judgment, and the ability to multi-task
• Well-developed interpersonal skills to communicate in a professional and courteous manner with customers, co-workers, and management
• Computer knowledge including but not limited to point-of-sale systems and data entry
• Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights and weekends

Desired skills for our stylists:

• Hair dresser / stylist / cosmetologist experience
• Cosmetology license
• Salon experience preferred (in school or professional)
• Experience using different types of scissors, trimmers and other tools to create hairstyles
• An understanding of the different types of hairstyles a person can request and how to achieve those looks
• A willingness to learn about new styles and techniques
• The ability to communicate with customers and understand a look they want, even if they don't know the technical terms for a certain style
