The University of Washington Meany Center for the Performing Arts in Seattle seeks a Lead Stage Technician (Stage Technician 2) to be the on-site production leader for the Studio Theatre, coordinating with UW academic partners and Meany Center staff.

This role handles rehearsals, performances, maintenance, and admin tasks, with occasional load-in/load-out and a requirement for evening/weekend work; strong stagecraft and safety leadership are essential.

Qualifications

  • Minimum two years as Stage Technician 1 in a performing arts facility with lead crew experience.
  • Experience operating, maintaining and repairing stage and shop equipment.
  • Knowledge of lighting and sound systems; basic stage management and rigging.
  • First Aid/CPR/AED certification required once hired.
  • Evenings and weekends availability with shifting schedules.

Responsibilities

  • Lead on-site technician during Studio Theatre performances.
  • Serve as liaison between academic partners and Meany Center.
  • Guide student crews during technical rehearsals and performances.
  • Coordinate with production teams to ensure safe operation of systems.
  • Manage performance schedules with Technical Director.
  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on theater systems.
  • Plan replacements and purchases of theatrical supplies.
  • Assist in maintaining lighting, sound, video systems.
  • Stay current with latest technologies.
  • Support stage preparations with academic partners.
  • Assist load-in and load-out.
  • Set run days timelines with department heads.
  • Adjust plans to stay on track.
  • Track purchases and reconcile spending per policies.
  • Assist with stage activity for Gerlich Theater.
