Job summary

Metropolitan State University of Denver invites applications for part-time affiliate faculty teaching positions in Studio Art, two-dimensional media. The successful candidate will teach studio foundations, drawing, painting, printmaking or other media as assigned.

Affiliate faculty are hired per credit hour and are not eligible for benefits. All teaching assignments are on a per‑credit‑hour basis, with classes taught in person on campus and online as required.

Qualifications

  • BFA/BA in Art with active portfolio, local or national recognition, and at least three years of teaching or professional experience.
  • Demonstrated experience teaching contemporary approaches to art, creative research, and critical thinking.
  • Experience working with diverse urban student populations including students of color, LGBTQIA students, students from low-income backgrounds, first-generation students, students with disabilities, undocumented students, non-traditional students, student veterans, and English language learners.

Responsibilities
  • Teach one to three classes in studio foundations, drawing, painting, printmaking, or other media as appropriate.
  • Deliver course content to students in person on campus (or online, as required).
  • Prepare course materials and lesson plans, grade student work, and provide robust, timely feedback.
  • Respond to student questions in accordance with university, college, and department policies.
  • Provide academic support to students as needed.
  • Maintain instruction consistent with course syllabus and departmental coordination policies.

Required Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications
  • MFA, MA, or equivalent in Art (or a closely related field) with an active professional portfolio.
  • Significant local or national recognition and over three years of higher‑education teaching and/or professional experience.
Terms of Employment

Affiliate faculty are part‑time, at‑will employees hired to teach on a per‑credit‑hour basis for specific classes, usually on a semester‑by‑semester basis. They are not eligible for benefits under the university’s benefit program. All teaching assignments are dependent on budget and enrollment and the candidate will be expected to teach in person/on campus upon hire.

Salary

The rate of pay per credit‑hour assignment is between $1,264 and $1,482, based on university policy.
