Job description

This position is for eligible, current students enrolled at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary.

Student Success Representative for Master of Divinity Students

Location: Charlotte, NC, Jacksonville, FL, or Boston, MA (Student must reside in NC, FL, or MA.)

Hours: 10 hours/week

You must be a currently enrolled student at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary to be eligible for this student worker position. Only eligible students will be considered.

Job Qualifications:
  1. Highly organized, detail-oriented, and orderly, capable of using time efficiently and effectively.
  2. Possesses a sound working knowledge of the GCTS degree programs, pertinent registration policies and procedures.
  3. Must possess exceptional interpersonal abilities demonstrating a confident, warm, outgoing manner including excellent verbal communication and listening skills.
  4. Must be sensitive to the varied needs of a diverse student population.
  5. Should possess the ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  6. Capable of functioning effectively within a student-centered, cooperative decision-making environment.
  7. Able to take initiative and problem solve.
  8. Possesses solid experience in the use of a computer, especially Microsoft office suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, etc.)
  9. Proficiency in the usage of web technologies and ability to learn new database software.
  10. Ability to work 10 hours per week. Hours agreed upon prior to the upcoming term.
Responsibilities
  1. Performs routine contact with students and follow-up with inactive students to identify enrollment barriers in an effort to improve retention, keeping clear records of all efforts using Navigate 360.
  2. Oversees the orientation of new students, including conducting welcome calls to new students and providing introductory training for pertinent GCTS systems, advising students regarding registration processes, and mentoring new students in areas of school/life balance, study habits, class selection, keeping clear records of all efforts in Navigate 360.
  3. Answers students’ basic questions and wisely and efficiently assess the nature of the concerns and handles or makes appropriate referrals as necessary.
  4. Assists students with queries about general academic policies using the information in the student handbook, academic calendar, and catalog.
  5. Serves as initial contact for the Student Success office: answers phone, email, and walk-in students. Answers basic registration questions and wisely and efficiently assesses the nature of the concerns and handles or makes appropriate referrals as necessary.
  6. Participates in all seminary functions related to Student Services (i.e., New Student Orientation, Graduation, etc.).
  7. Assists in other activities as requested by the Student Success staff.
