Collects and verifies demographic, insurance, and billing information and refers billing, insurance, and collection questions or disputes to appropriate staffESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:Greets patients and visitors in a prompt, courteous and helpful manner. They may collect and verify billing or insurance information, but will refer questions and disputes to appropriate staff. Makes appointments following scheduling policies, ensuring that all demographics are correct. Must be able to handle cash, balance and reconcile daily cash and charges against computer system at end of day according to policy. Any cash handling or reconciliation will occur under direct adult supervision. Maintains work area and lobby in a safe, neat and orderly manner. They may copy or scan documents as specifically assigned, but will not independently process medical-record requests or approve disclosures. Maintains files and records in a confidential manner. Assists with organizing and stocking non-clinical office supplies and maintaining standard office equipment. They will not provide clinical advice or triage, handle medications or specimens, clean spills, handle sharps or biohazardous waste, or perform patient-care duties. Communicates effectively with patients, providers, co-workers, etc. Works toward maintaining a positive work environment and overall team effort of the department and clinic. Has a "CAN DO" attitude. Attends required meetings and participates in committees as requested. Knowledge of basic arithmetic to make simple calculations. Skill in operating a computer and photocopy machine. Ability to sort and file.INTERPERSONAL REQUIREMENTS:Daily contact with employees, patients, family members, physicians, and vendors.Contributes to a positive work environment and the overall team effort of the department.DIRECTION/SUPERVISION REQUIREMENTS:Works under direct supervision of Clinic Manager or designated staff member. Students will remain under direct adult supervision and will not work alone.System access will be limited to the minimum necessary, with required privacy and security training.PHYSICAL DEMANDS:Must be able to stand, walk, climb stairs, sit in place, squat, and kneel periodically through shift.
