Responsibilities

  • Adherence to laboratory and field safety procedures and Standards of Practice are essential.
  • Assist Field Technicians with trapping and sampling small mammals following IACUC protocols and the laboratories research methods.
  • Assist Field Technicians with tick drags to collect, identify and store samples.
  • Document all activities using electronic laboratory information system.
  • Input data into computer programs.
  • Assist with GIS mapping.
  • Learn how to analyze and interpret data.

Student Wildlife Field Technician
Job Summary:

The Dr. Jane Huffman Wildlife Genetics Institute is seeking studentworkers to assist with our field research and sample collections. Fieldresearch will include trapping and sampling small mammals, and conducting tickdrags to collect ticks. This position will also include laboratory time to documentand store samples following SOP, and identification of ticks collected. This isa unique opportunity to support research on vector borne disease.

The candidate will perform a variety of functions in supportof the research group. Primary duties will involve projects that are focused onfield research for collection of ticks, identifying and storing ticks bycollection site.

up to 20 hours per week

Pay

$12.00 per hour

Responsibilities

Requirements
  • Successful candidates will be self-motivated, organized, independent, and eager to learn a breadth of techniques.
  • Occasional evening and/or weekend work will be required.
  • Ability to walk and hike through various terrains and work in various temperatures.
  • Must have excellent critical thinking, problem solving, verbal and written skills, deductive reasoning and highly perceptive and detail oriented.
  • Successful candidate must work well in small and large groups.
  • Registered student pursuing a bachelors or graduate degree in Biological sciences, or related degree, with an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher.
