Job summary

Peoria Unified School District is seeking a Bus Assistant for the Transportation department. The role supports student safety, helps with boarding and alighting, and ensures proper handling of wheelchairs and accessibility equipment on the bus.

Responsibilities include maintaining student conduct, recording incidents, and assisting staff with daily transportation tasks. A valid IVP fingerprint card and CPR/First Aid may be required, with a 9-month term of employment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED (preferred) or equivalent experience.
• Ability to read, write and speak English.
• Physical ability to lift and move students.
• Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relations with others.

Responsibilities

• Maintain safe student conduct on the bus and ensure orderly boarding and alighting.
• Assist young and/or disabled students entering/exiting the bus and secure wheelchairs.
• Keep written records of student violations and other required records.
• Collect personal items left on the bus and return them to the school offices.
• Attend to students and their needs.
• Secure wheelchairs and equipment during transportation.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
