Overview

Responsible for providing a variety of paying and receiving functions, including processing deposits, withdrawals, loan payments, cashier's checks, money orders, and cash advances. Balances each day's transactions and verifies cash totals. Assists with a broad variety of member services functions such as opening and closing accounts, renewing certificates, and assisting members with bookkeeping and checking account problems. Answers members' questions regarding Credit Union services and performs various account maintenance tasks. Actively cross-sells Credit Union services. Performs specific assigned side jobs, including clerical and receptionist functions, and assists other Service Representatives as needed. Serves members promptly and professionally.

Responsibilities

Assumes responsibility for the efficient, effective, and accurate performance of teller functions:

  1. Represents the Credit Union in a courteous and professional manner.
  2. Receives share deposits and loan payments.
  3. Processes cash advances, traveler's checks, cashier's checks, and money orders.
  4. Disburses cash or check share withdrawals.
  5. Processes transfers.
  6. Verifies transactions, monitors deposit amounts, and examines documents for endorsement and negotiability. Detects and resolves discrepancies promptly.
  7. Balances daily transactions and verifies cash totals. Investigates and resolves out-of-balance conditions.

Assumes responsibility for the effective and professional performance of member service functions:

  1. Presents and explains Credit Union services and products to members and assists in meeting their financial needs. Opens and closes accounts. Orders checks for members' accounts. Completes payroll deduction and authorization forms.
  2. Answers questions and solves problems for members by listening to issues, collecting data, securing answers, and reporting results. Resolves member bookkeeping and checking account problems. Takes stop payment orders.
  3. Receives and directs members and telephone calls. Responds to inquiries and questions or directs them as necessary. Records and relays messages.
  4. Performs file maintenance and account changes as needed.
  5. Keeps members informed of Credit Union services and policies, including account types, interest and dividend rates, payroll deduction options, and other services.
  6. Maintains and projects the Credit Union's professional reputation. Ensures privacy of member account information.
  7. Actively cross-sells Credit Union products and services.

Assumes responsibility for establishing and maintaining effective coordination and working relationships with area personnel and management:

  1. Assists area personnel as required.
  2. Keeps supervisor informed of area activities and significant issues.
  3. Completes required reports and records accurately and promptly.
  4. Attends meetings as required.
  5. Performs related duties as assigned.
  6. Keeps work area clean, well-maintained, and secure.
  7. Performs related clerical duties as needed.
Qualifications

Training/Education/Certification:

  • High school student.

Required Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of Service Representative operations and procedures.
  • Basic understanding of Credit Union operations.

Experience Required:

  • Abilities generally acquired on the job within 12 months. No prior experience necessary.

Skills/Abilities:

  • Good communication skills.
  • Professional appearance, dress, and attitude.
  • Good math skills.
  • Ability to operate related computer applications and business equipment including adding machines, typewriters, copy machines, coin and money counting machines, and telephones.
  • Good typing skills.
