Franklin University, a private, independent, accredited, not-for-profit University located in Columbus, Ohio invites applicants for its Student Teacher Supervisor-Wayne County, Ohio position beginning August 18, 2025. The Student Teacher Supervisor acts as a Clinical Supervisor for student teachers in Ohio, specifically assigned to oversee students within designated counties. This role requires 14 weeks of in-person supervision, ensuring that student teachers are supported, guided, and assessed effectively throughout their teaching experience. Ideally, the supervisor should hold a licensure that aligns with the licensure area of the student, creating stronger, more relevant mentorship experience by matching teaching specializations, such as grade level or subject area.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Provides 14 weeks of in-person supervision over student teacher candidates.
  2. Supervises student teachers, provides guidance, and ensures they adhere to program standards and expectations.
  3. Conducts a minimum of eleven meetings, including:
    1. Initial meeting with student and co-op teacher to establish ground rules.
    2. Four additional observation meetings.
    3. Final evaluation meeting using the School of Education's approved clinical assessment method.
  4. Completes, collects, and submits all required student teaching documents by program deadlines.
  5. Maintains regular communication with student teachers via meetings, phone calls, email, or Zoom providing regular feedback to increase their teaching performance.
  6. Objectively evaluates and grades Teacher Candidates based on classroom performance and submitted work.
  7. Fosters student confidence and teaching efficacy.
  8. Stays current with supervision approaches such as cognitive coaching, adult learning theory, and instructional practices.
  9. Communicates with the Clinical Field Office staff regarding student concerns.

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:

  1. Master’s degree in Education.
  2. Must have daytime availability to conduct in-person school visits.
  3. Must reside in County or neighboring County where position resides within the state of Ohio.
  4. Hold/held a 5-year Professional Teaching Licensure.
  5. 5+ years of K-12 teaching experience.
  6. Familiarity with Ohio Teacher Evaluation System (OTES), Ohio Standards for the Teaching Profession (OSTP), and InTASC standards.

Preferred Skills and Characteristics:

  1. Experience with academic assessment programs (Candidate Pre-Service Assessment for Teachers, OTES, etc.).
  2. Prior field supervision experience.
  3. Current/Active Ohio Teaching license.
  4. Previous experience mentoring or supervising teachers in Ohio.
  5. Familiarity with Google Drive, Microsoft Teams, online documents, etc.

Additional Notes:

  1. $750 Stipend per student teacher supervised.
  2. Mileage reimbursement to and from the school location.
  3. The maximum number of students one can supervise is 5.
  4. First-time supervisors will not be given more than 1-3 students.
