Job description

This entry-level position offers a unique opportunity for a current student to gain valuable work experience while contributing to the success of Lake Sumter State College. The Student Assistant will work closely with faculty and staff to support departmental activities.

This is a part-time position with an expected commitment of 20-25 hours per week. The schedule will be flexible to accommodate the student's academic responsibilities.

The role involves demonstrating LSSC's values of Caring, Communicating, Collaborating, and Celebrating. Students cannot work during scheduled class times.

The Mascot Handler serves as the official goodwill ambassador for Lake-Sumter State College, promoting school spirit, engagement, community connections, and college affinity.

Responsibilities include:

• Performing as the Lakehawk Mascot or Handler at athletic games, college events, and community functions.
• Representing the College at community outreach and charity events.
• Positively representing the College.
• Participating in filming commercials, promotional videos, and photo campaigns.
• Rotating as a Mascot Handler.
• Performing additional tasks as needed.

Qualifications:

• Outgoing personality with excellent customer service skills and respectful interaction with fans, students, staff, and community members, including children.
• Ability to assume the character of the Mascot/Handler as outlined by the College.
• Good physical condition to wear the costume and be active for extended periods.
• Ability to assess social cues and interaction levels.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
• Ability to adapt to a flexible, fast-paced environment with good judgment and discretion.
• Currently enrolled at Lake Sumter State College (minimum 6 credit hours).
• Maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA.
• Minimum age of 18.
