SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, NY is seeking a Student Surgical Technologist to assist in the operating room environment and gain hands-on exposure to sterile processing, case picking, and scrub techniques. The SST will shadow a Surgical Tech and RN circulator under supervision, with duties including room setup, instrument handling, and I'ms tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

• Current Surgical Technology student in an accredited program.
• All prerequisites must be completed.
• Letter from the Surgical Technology program director stating student is in good standing and a letter of recommendation (healthcare field preferred) CPR/BLS certification

Responsibilities

• Assist with room turnovers and terminal cleaning.
• Transport patients and run for blood when needed.
• Shadow in Central Sterile to learn decontamination, scope processing, and tray organization.
• Assist with case picking and be in position for 2nd scrub.
• Open sterile CDS packs and sterile instrument trays under supervision, perform surgical scrub, gown and glove.
