Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• AA Degree (or higher); or 60 college credit hours; or passing AZ Dept of Education approved Paraprofessional Exam.
• Experience working with children with special needs.
• Professional development history showing knowledge about students with special needs.
• Experience working with students at various levels of instruction.
• First Aid/CPR Certification required.
• Excellent communication skills (written and oral).
• Computer skills in Microsoft Word and Excel and student data systems.

Responsibilities

• Assists teachers in administration, delivery, and evaluation of student instruction aligned with Academic Standards.
• Performs duties as determined by the team.
• Interprets student needs and progress to classroom teachers.
• Provides collaborative support in the classroom assisting teachers with student needs.
• Assists teachers in planning academically appropriate assignments for individual students.
• Develops instructional programs for students with special needs.
• Participates in professional development to support students with more severe needs.
• Consults with teachers about student needs and progress with IEPs.
• Assists teachers with preparation of instructional materials.
• Responds to new ideas from teachers.
• Maintains professional interactions with staff and students.
• Encourages classroom behavior standards and assists with discipline.
• Protects students and property.
• Maintains accurate records as required by policy and law.
• Provides availability to students for education-related purposes outside instructional day when requested.
