Qualifications

• Must possess a high school diploma (or GED) with some specialized training or experience in education or counseling.
• Knowledge of in-school suspension procedures and ability to learn them quickly.
• Strong written and verbal communication; ability to supervise and mediate conflicts.
• Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with students, parents, and staff.

Responsibilities

• Enforces adherence to rules of the in-school suspension program and fosters a conducive learning climate.
• Serves as liaison between teachers and students in the program to collect and return daily work.
• Assists students with completing regular classroom assignments and provides additional work when needed.
• Communicates behavior expectations and explains suspension impact to students.
• Guides students to develop a positive attitude toward learning.
• Monitors students in the program and tracks progress.
• Communicates with parents and teachers regarding student behavior and progress.
• Reports inappropriate behavior to professional staff and escorts students during breaks.
• Maintains attendance and other records for students in the program.
• Reports program effectiveness and suggests improvements.
• Models nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.
