Job summary

Haledon Elementary School District is seeking a dedicated Student Support/Teacher Assistant to work under direct supervision of certified staff. The role focuses on reinforcing reading, language arts and math, assisting with assessments, and aiding in classroom preparation to support instructional goals.

Responsibilities include supporting students with special needs, supervising lunch and other activities, and contributing to IEP processes as needed.

Qualifications

High School diploma or equivalent.
Successful completion of college level coursework or passing of examination as required by the No Child Left Behind Act.
Prior experience working with special needs children desirable.

Responsibilities

Assist students with reading, language arts, mathematics, computer instruction and other skills.
Work individually and in small groups to reinforce learning.
Assist in administration and correction of classroom exercises, tests and assessments.
Assist in classroom preparations and strategies for reinforcing instructional materials and skills.
Assist with record-keeping to document student learning and performance.
Support classroom behavioral management to minimize disruptions and keep students on task.
Supervise students in non-instructional areas (lunch, bus, playground, study halls).
Accompany students on field trips for supervision.
Create and distribute educational materials as needed.
Assist with parent contact to foster involvement.
Assist students with special needs to maximize inclusion and learning.
Participate in IEP processes as needed.
