Jefferson County Schools seeks a School Counselor to support students’ academic, career and social-emotional development within the district’s comprehensive counseling program.

The role emphasizes individual and group counseling, crisis response, college/postsecondary planning, and collaboration with staff, families, and community partners. Exempt, 220 days per year, placement on the JCBOE salary scale.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in school counseling
• WVDE certification/licensure for a school counselor
• Criminal background check as per WV law
• Continuing education through WVDE conferences and ASCA
• Uphold ASCA ethical and professional standards
• Ability to work as part of a team
• Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, staff and leadership

Responsibilities

• Coordinate the school counseling program and WV Standards for Student Success
• Provide short-term and long-term counseling for student needs
• Deliver crisis intervention and student support services
• Assist with scheduling, college/postsecondary planning and referrals
• Collaborate with teachers, parents, and community agencies
• Contribute to curricular development and program assessment
