Job summary

Friends of the Children in Missoula, MT seeks an Academic Achievement Specialist to nurture long-term relationships with youth through loving, culturally informed tutoring and literacy support.

You will manage a small roster, coordinate assessments, develop individualized learning plans with mentors, and collaborate with teachers to reinforce classroom learning while expanding STEAM activities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required in education or related field.
• 3–5 years of experience with vulnerable children or families.
• Be culturally competent and trauma-informed.
• Experience building relationships with children, parents, and teachers.
• Superior scheduling and time management.
• Data entry and database management skills.
• Experience in a growing non-profit.

Responsibilities

• Manage a roster of 10–12 students and meet 2× weekly for 45–60 minutes.
• Coordinate annual assessments and two assessments per cycle.
• Develop individualized learning plans with mentors.
• Collect, organize, and report assessment data to show outcomes.
• Promote literacy and math through reading, library visits, and homework help.
• Foster prosocial behaviors and positive learning environments.
• Collaborate with teachers to provide in-school tutorials.
• Support STEAM activities and enrichment to ignite future passions.
• Work 40 hours weekly, including afternoons and evenings.
• Transport children as needed in personal vehicles.
