Job summary

Bates College in Lewiston, ME seeks an Assistant Dean of Students for the Center for Student Success to provide direct student advising, design milestone programs, and collaborate with the Senior Associate Dean to foster belonging and holistic growth.

You will manage a student caseload, support orientation and campus initiatives, and help implement integrated student-support services across campus.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required; master's preferred.
• 3–5 years of undergraduate advising or student-facing programming.
• Experience in residential life, campus life, first-generation programs, orientation, or student success.

Responsibilities

• Campus Collaboration: Build partnerships with faculty to position the Center for Student Success as a resource in student success; navigate the dual advising model; collaborate with campus partners to unify student support; participate in cross-divisional initiatives.
• Program Development: Design and implement milestone programs across the 4-year student journey; facilitate academic skills programming; deliver goal-setting and reflection workshops; support orientation and events; ensure welcoming staffing during operating hours.
• Holistic Support: Manage a student caseload; provide holistic advising on policies, leaves, deferrals, and degree planning; conduct proactive outreach to support students; engage in SSA community.
• Assessment and Continuous Improvement: Support assessment framework; contribute data to reports; apply iterative program design; stay current on best practices.
