Job summary

Spartanburg Community College seeks an Academic Advisor to provide educational guidance, helping students map their academic plans, monitor progress, and schedule classes. The role supports retention and graduation goals and collaborates with faculty advisors and department chairs when needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and experience in student services programs.
  • Master's degree; at least 3 years of experience in academic advising or related student support services.
  • Experience with Colleague Self Service or other Higher Education Database systems.

Responsibilities

  • Provide educational guidance by working with students on academic plans, progress, and scheduling.
  • Offer academic advising to support student retention and graduation initiatives; coordinate with faculty advisors and department chairs as needed.
  • Participate in New Student Orientation related to Academic Advising and educate students on the registration process and deadlines.
  • Meet with students at least twice per semester and as needed to address obstacles to academic success.
  • Explain academic policies and help students develop a plan to meet graduation requirements.
  • Maintain confidential advising records in compliance with FERPA regulations.
  • Engage in professional development through conferences, trainings, and webinars to stay current in best practices.
