Job Summary

Provide information concerning academic success and career guidanceas well as other retention-related topics in order to assiststudents with overall success. Information on academic success caninclude but not be limited to course selection, study skills, timemanagement, tracking progression, and assisting with transfer toanother institution of higher education. Furthermore, the StudentSuccess Advisor provides case management for at-risk students.Career guidance can include but not be limited to resumepreparation, career guidance and referral to career relatedresources.

Job Duties

Providing academic advising, career advising, and other collegesuccess resources for all students in individual and groupsettings. Assist students with college major selection through theuse of various assessments, tools and resources. Guide studentsthrough the process of transferring to another institution ofhigher education through course, program articulation andself-advocacy. Monitor the academic progress of assigned adviseesand provide regular outreach to assist the students with staying ontrack academically. Provide general information about the variousforms of financial aid and how the student remains in satisfactoryacademic progress based on federal and state aid regulations. Referstudents to retention related resources which may include but notbe limited to counseling, tutoring, financial education andliteracy support, career services, co-curricular programs, andother internal and external resources. Work with students who havebeen reported through the Early Alert system to assist them withsecuring the needed resources and/or following appropriate collegepolicies or procedures. Manage personalized student communicationplans through the customer relationship management software. Reachout to students who have stopped out from previous terms to offerassistance with re-entering the college and to encouragereadmission. Assist non first-time applicants (new transfer andreadmit) and new first-time freshman students with collegeprocesses which lead to enrollment. Analyze data provided throughthe advising dashboard and other available data sources at thecollege to inform student success intervention strategies. Provideregistration information through class presentations, groupadvising, automated communication plans, instructional videos, etc.Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and one (1) year of related experience assistingstudents.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree.
  • Experience in college level academic advising or career advising,high school guidance counselor experience, or some other area ofdirect student services.
  • Experience with Banner.

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with students, staff,faculty, service area school systems, employers, and communitypartners.
  • Must be a willing advocate of the mission of the college.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational skills, anddetail oriented.
  • Demonstrated effective writing, speaking, and listeningskills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projectssimultaneously.
  • Ability to travel within the VSCC service area is required.
  • Strong computer skills to include proficiency in Microsoft Officeproducts and other related software.
Pay Rate

$45,205 - $55,489 annual salarydepending on experience
