Job summary

The ASU Foundation Launch Studio team seeks a Student Strategic Research Analyst to conduct qualitative, web-based research on philanthropy, program officers, and donors, informing strategy for philanthropic initiatives at ASU.

This role requires strong research and writing skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently or with a team. MS Office proficiency is essential; graphic design skills are a plus. Hours: 10–22 per week, with flexibility during weekdays.

  • Prepare presentations, reports, and other graphic materials for senior leadership.
  • Analyze and summarize financial disclosure documents for wealth assessment and program interest.

Job description

The ASU Foundation (ASUF) fosters partnerships between ASU and like-minded individuals, corporations and foundations who believe in ASU’s mission and provide resources for ASU to manifest its charter into meaningful impact.

As a part of the ASU Foundation Launch Studio team, the Student Strategic Research Analyst will conduct qualitative, web-based research on a wide variety of topics (e.g., deep dive research on philanthropic organizations, program officers, executive leadership, and ultra-high-net-worth individuals) to inform and guide strategy for philanthropically funded initiatives at ASU. Research deliverables will primarily inform strategy for “moonshots” – bold ideas to address social and environmental challenges with philanthropic support–and science philanthropy. The Student Strategic Research Analyst will use a variety of online resources to stay up to date on current trends in philanthropy, as well as use online databases, foundation websites, and public tax documents to compile funding landscapes on a variety of topics. They will also prepare comprehensive briefing materials on individuals and organizations to support executive leadership in cultivating relationships with potential donors and collaborators. Strong qualitative research and research-based writing skills, attention to detail, and organization skills are required. A love for learning and a desire to stay up to date on current events is essential. Proficiency in spreadsheet software and graphic design skills are a plus.

This position will require approximately 10 - 22 hours per week in scheduled shifts between 8am and 5pm, Monday through Friday. Additional hours may be allowed during school breaks and over the summer. Start date is flexible.

What You’ll Do
  • Conduct in-depth research on individuals and organizations such as corporations and foundations, utilizing confidential files and print, electronic, and on-line resources
  • Produce deep dives and landscape analyses to identify major trends in philanthropy, higher education, and other related areas of interest
  • Stay up to date on current events, regularly monitor news stories, press releases, and other online sources and communicate pertinent information to the team through bi-weekly tracking reports
  • Prepare presentations, reports, and other graphic materials to share with senior leadership
  • Analyze, interpret, and summarize financial disclosure documents for purposes of wealth assessment, identification of previous giving history, and program area interests
  • Uphold all fundraising and prospect research professional standards and expectations

  • Ability to navigate ambiguity and respond to urgent and shifting priorities
  • Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality and responsibility regarding information related to Foundation and University business and confidential prospect information
Preferred Skills And Abilities
  • Ability to commit to working at least two consecutive semesters
  • Graphic design skills as this position will support in producing presentations, reports and other high level graphic materials to help prospective donors learn more about ASU
  • An ability to understand dynamic, interrelated concepts and ASU connections to news, events and organizations
  • Organizational skills, ability to keep team files and digital workspaces organized
Relevant Qualifications
  • A current undergraduate or graduate student at Arizona State University. Student must be willing to sign and abide by a confidentiality agreement.
