Purpose and Scope

The student intern supports FMCNA's mission, vision, and core values. Adheres to the FMCNA Compliance Program, including all regulatory and policy requirements.

The intern functions as part of the hemodialysis healthcare team, providing safe and effective dialysis therapy under the supervision of a licensed social worker, in compliance with policies and regulations. Supports quality improvement activities and patient satisfaction initiatives.

Responsibilities

1. Participate in social work education, developing professional competence per CSWE standards.
2. Under supervision, assist with patient assessments, care planning, and psychosocial counseling.
3. Provide patient education on kidney disease, treatment options, and psychosocial issues.
4. Assist with referrals to community resources and support services.
5. Maintain documentation and adhere to social work policies.
6. Engage in quality improvement activities and team collaboration.
7. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or G.E.D.
• Interest in social work or healthcare, with a desire to deliver excellent customer service.
• Ability to work under supervision, with effective communication skills.

Physical Demands & Environment

Includes desk work, patient interaction, and travel between facilities. Work environment typical of healthcare settings, with exposure to infectious materials.

Additional Information

• Internship, part-time position.
• Supervised by Clinical Manager and SWFI.
• Must not work under or care for a family member.
