The School of Humanities and Sciences (H&S) is the foundation of a liberal arts education at Stanford. The school encompasses 24 departments and 25 interdisciplinary programs. DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION: The Department of Classics is one of the founding departments at Stanford. The department is vibrant and active (teaching, events, research, international fieldwork, fellowships, awards, etc.). Classics faculty are committed to excellence in research and education and are proud of the outstanding students and staff who make this work possible.
The Classics community is comprised of 20 tenure-line, academic council faculty, three lecturers, PhD students, and undergraduate majors and minors. The department supports and sponsors a wide range of interdisciplinary and extracurricular activities and has extensive contact with people throughout the university as well as a global community of scholars.
POSITION SUMMARY: We have an opening for a full-time, experienced, Student Services Manager, a key member of the four-person administrative team. This position reports to the director of finance and operations and works closely with the director of graduate studies, director of undergraduate studies, and chair. Each member of the administrative team has direct contact with faculty, students, visitors, and staff.
This is a 100% FTE position and eligible for a hybrid schedule. The Student Services Manager must be independent, detail-oriented, and able to cope with the demands of a very challenging and rewarding position. The SSM needs to be a strong partner to the Director of Finance and Operations, the Chair, the other members of the administrative team, and faculty. We are looking for someone who is a role model for success and professionalism. The successful candidate must have excellent communication skills that will allow them to interact effectively with a diverse group of people. The SSM is the departmental expert on unit, school, and university policy and resources related to students (PhD, MA, PhD minors and undergraduates), postdoctoral scholars, and visiting student researchers. The successful candidate must be able to manage frequent interruptions and keep track of many short and long-term deadlines and processes (course scheduling, degree progress, graduate admissions, GFS/funding, etc.). The candidate will also be responsible for updating and maintaining approved content on the departmental website and all university student-related systems. The SSM is responsible for preparation and review of a wide range of reports (financial, enrollment, commencement, advising, etc.) including investigating questions via multiple reporting tools/systems. The ideal candidate will already have work experience using Google Workspace Business Applications, Slack (or similar), Axess, GFPS and GFS. Student and academic services experience at Stanford desired. Cover letter and resume required.
JOB PURPOSE:
Lead and manage program(s) or function(s) under minimal supervision. Administer, implement, and interpret university and department policies and procedures on issues regarding admission, financial aid, housing, registrar services, visa services, student life, advising, career counseling and academic services. Identify, clarify, and resolve highly visible or complex issues with substantial significance and impact that may span multiple areas, using advanced technical and professional knowledge requiring independent judgment.
Works on problems of diverse complexity (size, degree, focus, expertise, breadth, impact) where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. Networks with senior internal and external contacts in own area of expertise and outside own area of expertise.

Bachelor’s degree and three years of relevant experience, or combination of education and relevant experience.

WORK STANDARDS:
The expected pay range for this position is $94,998 to $112,502 per annum.
