Job summary

Hayward Unified School District is seeking a Substitute School Crossing Guard to help keep elementary students safe during arrivals and departures, directing pedestrians and traffic at school intersections and wearing a visible vest and stop sign.

The position offers an hourly rate of $17.34 and requires alertness, clear English communication, and the ability to work outdoors in varied weather on school days, following district procedures and reporting to a supervisor as needed.

Qualifications

• Combination of training and experience to demonstrate knowledge and abilities listed above.
• Knowledge of traffic rules for crossing of children at intersections.
• Ability to communicate clearly in English and interact with students, staff and the public.

Responsibilities

• Direct traffic and assist elementary students in crossing streets safely.
• Observe traffic and position yourself and sign to stop vehicles when children are crossing.
• Instruct children on crossing safety and bicycle handling.
• Cooperate with school authorities on traffic safety programs.
• Report safety concerns or violations to supervisor and follow procedures.
• Wear vest and carry stop sign while on duty and attend training.
