This clinician level is for student respiratory therapists operating under their student license. Administers various forms of respiratory therapy in accordance with the policies and procedures of the Respiratory Care Department.
Major Responsibilities
- Patient assessment of respiratory status and progression.
- Provide aerosolized medication treatments as ordered.
- Provide mucus clearing therapy such as mechanical vest treatment, vibratory PEP therapy, Incentive spirometry, and cough assist.
- Communication of pertinent information to the patient care team including nurses, physicians, and fellow respiratory therapists.
- Clean, assemble, and test respiratory equipment such as ventilators, BiPAP machines, and High Flow Nasal Cannulas.

- Complies with established departmental policies, procedures and objectives.
- Attends variety of meetings, conferences, seminars as required or directed.
- Demonstrates use of Quality Improvement in daily operations.
- Complies with all health and safety regulations and requirements.
- Respects diverse views and approaches, demonstrates Standards of Respect, and contributes to creating and maintaining an environment of professionalism, tolerance, civility and acceptance toward all employees, patients and visitors.
- Maintains, regular, reliable, and predictable attendance.
- Performs other similar and related duties as required or directed.
Position Qualifications
All responsibilities are essential job functions.
License/Certification/Education
Required:
- Must have a student Respiratory Therapy license.
- Must be enrolled and attending at least a 2-year Respiratory Program and have completed the first year.
- Must have a competency sign off sheet from the college they are attending.
- BLS certified
Unless certification, licensure or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements.
Department-specific competencies and their measurements will be developed and maintained in the individual departments. The competencies will be maintained and attached to the departmental job description. Responsible managers will review competencies with position incumbents.
Physical Demands And Environmental Conditions
Work is considered medium work. Position requires work indoors in all clinical areas and a normal office environment. Performs cross training and cross campus coverage as required and determined necessary for operational effectiveness, patient care and department need.
Exerting 20—50 pounds of force occasionally and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Includes lifting occasionally, standing and walking frequently.
