**Role Overview:**
The Respiratory Care Assistant role is designed for first-year respiratory therapy students to gain exposure to an inpatient setting. The position offers a flexible work schedule around classes, with shifts of 4 hours, 4 days per week, during day or evening shifts.
**Purpose:**
Under the general direction of a respiratory therapist, and in accordance with PA Practice Act or NY State guidelines, the student respiratory care assistant performs various functions including equipment management, assisting clinical staff, and maintaining respiratory equipment. Responsibilities include assembly, transport, disinfection, calibration, troubleshooting, and inventory management of respiratory equipment.
**Responsibilities:**
- Exhibit service excellence by responding to the needs of patients, families, physicians, and staff.
- Maintain oxygen supplies and cylinders across inpatient units, emergency department, and clinics.
- Perform routine assembly, maintenance, cleaning, and disinfection of respiratory care equipment.
- Transport and handle respiratory equipment following infection control protocols.
- Report malfunctions and perform preventative maintenance.
- Assist with bronchoscope procedures, intubations, sleep studies, and home care supplies.
- Maintain proficiency with electronic health records and ordering systems.
- Enrolled in a respiratory therapist program with a high school diploma.
**Minimum Requirements:**
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Act 31, 33, 34, and 73 clearances and renewals.
