UNTWN Uniontown Hospital is seeking a radiology student assistant to support Diagnostic Radiologic Technologists by assisting with imaging and patient care. You will rotate through multiple diagnostic areas to build hands‑on skills under supervision.

The role emphasizes patient education, safe handling practices, and teamwork within the radiology department to ensure efficient workflow and quality care for patients served by WVU Medicine. This is a part‑time, on‑site position at Uniontown.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited radiography program and in good standing.
  • Ability to interact with patients, families, and health-care staff.
  • Willingness to rotate through diagnostic areas to develop skills.

Responsibilities

  • Rotate in Diagnostic areas (fluoro, mobiles, routine, OR, endoscopy, orthopedics) to develop skills.
  • Assist Radiologic Technologists with contrast agents, pharmaceuticals, and sterile trays per guidelines.
  • Coordinate patient transports and educate patients about radiographic procedures.
  • Promote teamwork in radiology by collaborating with staff across disciplines.
  • Report equipment failures promptly and participate in daily workflow coordination.

Job description

Assists Diagnostic Radiologic Technologists by performing imaging / therapeutic services and associated patient care to support the Radiology Department mission to provide diagnostic information for the subsequent treatment of patients at WVU Medicine.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Completion of first year of an Accredited Radiography School and enrolled as a second year student.
CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Rotates in all Diagnostic areas for development of technical skills. (Fluoro, Mobiles, Routine, Operating Room, Endoscopy, Orthopedics).
  • Assists Radiologic Technologists in preparing contrast agents, specific pharmaceuticals, and sterile trays; which are utilized for the imaging procedure according to procedural guidelines and protocols.
  • Navigates transport details and patient transfers.
  • Educates patients regarding radiographic procedures by explaining the procedure and answering questions accordingly.
  • Promotes the team approach to providing Radiology services by positively interacting with the technical, support, nursing, and medical staff.
  • Reports equipment failures immediately upon identification.
  • Participates in coordination of daily work flow.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Lift, push and pull up to 50 lbs. Carrying items up to 20 pounds.
  • Wear a lead apron weighing up to 15 pounds for extended periods of time.
  • Stand and walk for extended periods of time.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT
  • Exposure to minimal radiation within the national standards of occupational guidelines. Monitored by radiation safety and use of dosimeter.
  • Exposure to airborne particles and body fluids.
  • Operation of imaging equipment with automated moving parts.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Ability to interact positively with patients, families, and members of the health care team.
  • Ability to prioritize and deal with a variety of situations simultaneously.
  • Demonstrate competency in the use of safe patient handling equipment.
  • Ability to improvise with altered positioning techniques, manipulation of the equipment, and accessory devices when routine positioning is compromised due to patient’s condition, age, or ability.
