Job summary

The University of Texas at Austin (Texas Institute for Electronics) is seeking a Student Process Specialist to support R&D in advanced microfabrication and hybrid bonding.   • Prepare silicon, glass, and other substrates by applying photoresist coatings using spin coating equipment.
  • Operate lithography and related fabrication equipment to process 4-inch to 8-inch wafers.
  • Develop and inspect photoresist patterns using appropriate processing methods and chemicals.
  • Execute and document Design of Experiments (DOE), maintaining accurate records of process parameters and results.
  • Other duties as assigned

Purpose

The Student Process Specialist will support research and development activities involving advanced microfabrication and hybrid bonding technologies. This position offers hands‑on experience in a state‑of‑the‑art cleanroom environment and is ideal for current master’s students interested in semiconductor manufacturing, microfabrication processes, and experimental research.

Required Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with photolithography processes and mask design.
  • Experience working with photoresists, spin coaters, and wafer processing equipment.
  • Familiarity with Design of Experiments (DOE) methodologies.
  • Coursework or research experience related to semiconductor manufacturing, materials science, electrical engineering, chemical engineering, or a closely related field.

PhD in a related field preferred.

Work Schedule
  • Work between Monday and Friday (8:00am – 5:00pm)

Students are generally expected to work no more than 20 hours per week during academic semesters , although eligible students may be approved to work up to 30 hours per week after completing their first two long semesters, with additional flexibility during university breaks. Work schedules will be established in consideration of academic responsibilities and any other employment commitments.
