Job summary

Auburn University is seeking dependable student employees to support a parasitology research program focused on arthropod vectors, parasites, and vector‑borne diseases. You will help with routine lab and insectary maintenance, data collection, and observations, under supervision and training.

Previous lab experience is not required; training is provided. Ideal candidates are pursuing veterinary, entomology, biology, microbiology, or animal science studies and can commit to 8–15 hours weekly,

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled Auburn University undergraduate student; first‑semester students are eligible to apply.
  • Reliable, punctual, attentive to detail, and able to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Able to maintain accurate records and communicate promptly with laboratory personnel.
  • Able to perform routine physical tasks, including standing, bending, lifting, or moving supplies, in lab environments.
  • Able to work 8–15 hours per week during the semester; scheduling in blocks of at least three hours is preferred.
  • Willing and able to work occasional weekends, holidays, or academic breaks to support time‑sensitive activities.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with routine laboratory, insectary, and research-space organization and maintenance.
  • Prepare supplies, materials, and work areas for research activities.
  • Perform observations and husbandry tasks for arthropods, parasites, and research animals as assigned.
  • Support maintenance of laboratory colonies or cultures, monitoring environmental conditions.
  • Assist with animal handling and restraint after training and under supervision.
