Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary point of contact at the front desk by welcoming students, faculty, staff, and visitors
  • Answer and direct incoming phone calls in a courteous and professional manner
  • Provide exceptional customer service and assist visitors by connecting them with appropriate campus resources
  • Monitor and assist with the Academic Affairs general email account
  • Support Academic Affairs staff and leadership with administrative tasks and special projects
  • Assist with Academic Affairs events, meetings, and office initiatives as assigned
  • Perform office duties, including filing, scanning, copying, data entry, event marketing (emails, flyers) and maintaining an organized front office
  • Complete other duties as assigned

Job Description

Academic Affairs is seeking a friendly, dependable, and customer-focused student to join our team as a Student Office Assistant. This position serves as the first point of contact for visitors to the Academic Affairs Office and plays an important role in supporting daily office operations. A successful candidate will gain valuable professional experience while working alongside faculty, staff, and university leadership in a collaborative environment.

Job Responsibilities
  • Serve as the primary point of contact at the front desk by welcoming students, faculty, staff, and visitors
  • Answer and direct incoming phone calls in a courteous and professional manner
  • Provide exceptional customer service and assist visitors by connecting them with appropriate campus resources
  • Monitor and assist with the Academic Affairs general email account
  • Support Academic Affairs staff and leadership with administrative tasks and special projects
  • Assist with Academic Affairs events, meetings, and office initiatives as assigned
  • Perform office duties, including filing, scanning, copying, data entry, event marketing (emails, flyers) and maintaining an organized front office
  • Complete other duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • Current CMU student in good academic standing
  • Federal Work-Study or MAVworks funding required
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Reliable, punctual, organized, and detail-oriented
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and adapt to changing priorities
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams preferred)

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team
  • Maintain professional business casual attire while representing Academic Affairs
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods during events
  • Ability to move tables, chairs, and event supplies
  • Ability to occasionally lift and carry up to 20 pounds
  • Ability to bend, reach, and perform light physical tasks associated with event setup and takedown
