Job summary

Job Title: Student Nutrition Services (SNS) Manager Wage/Hour Status: Non Exempt

Primary Purpose

Responsible for on-site leadership of campus food service operations. Ensure that appropriate quantities of food are prepared and served. Meet time constraints set by menu requirements established. The School Nutrition Service (SNS) Manager will be responsible for program compliance and implementation for the Texans Can Academies district. Ensure all operations follow safe food handling standards set forth by TEA and USDA; ensure submissions adhere to program guidelines as directed by the Director.

Qualifications

Education/Certification:

  • Food Service Handler Manager Certification required
Experience
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Food service management experience, preferred
  • Minimum 2 years experience in food service supervision required
  • Required to complete at least 10 hours of CEU training in the school year
Major Responsibilities And Duties
  • Manages the Food Service Operation to meet requirements in accordance with TEA/TDA/USDA guidelines in Texans Can Academies schools.
  • Assign work to campus food service workers and oversee completion of duties
  • Maintain all serving schedules and serve all food items according to menu specifications defined by departmental policies and procedures.
  • Work cooperatively with campus principal and Director of SNS to accommodate temporary schedule changes and special serving requirements
  • Ability to fill in and perform all job functions for any position within the kitchen in addition to cashier functions.
  • Ability to cover other schools as needed
  • Review and verify student meal applications on a daily basis to ensure accurate listing of students eligible for participation in free/reduced meal program as well as notifying cafeteria staff as students are enrolled and become eligible and/or ineligible
  • Perform random student eligibility verification as assigned by the Director, SNS.
  • Provides supervision to the Lead Service Nutrition and Student Nutrition Assistant at designated district campus
  • Enforce standards of cleanliness, health, and safety. Perform safety and sanitation inspections each month using the Standard Inspection Form developed for Food Service use. Report findings to the Director, SNS.
  • Ensure that food is produced safely and is of high quality according to policies, procedures and department requirements. Store and handle food items and supplies safely following health safety codes and regulations.
  • Determine appropriate quantities of food items and supplies are available through daily orders and monthly inventories
  • Conduct regular physical equipment and supplies inventory
  • Monitor and/or prepare all Food Production Records as assigned by the Director, SNS.
  • Monitors and/or prepares accurate records to ensure counting and claiming of meals are accurate and that all funds are accurately accounted for.
  • Prepare and deliver bi-weekly bank deposits, email bank deposit and cash report to Director SNS
  • Supervise students, maintaining order to ensure safe conduct
  • Other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Supervise Lead Student Nutrition and Student Nutrition Assistant at assigned campuses.
  • Follow established procedures for locking, checking and safeguarding the student cafeteria and office
  • Monitor the work and issue work to campus food service workers; resolve all personnel issues.
  • Correct unsafe conditions in work area and promptly report any conditions are not immediately correctable to Director
Knowledge Of
  • Effective organizational, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Math skills necessary to convert recipes and quantities of recipes quickly and accurately
  • Knowledge of methods, materials, equipment and appliances used in food preparation
  • Personal computer, printer, fax machine, copier, and calculator.
  • Operate standard food service equipment
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships
  • Ability to meet schedules and time lines
Working Conditions

Must be able to lift 35 pounds regularly. Must be able to stand long periods at a time. Repetitive hand motions; prolonged use of computer.

Hazards
  • Exposure to very hot foods, equipment, and metal objects
  • Working around sharp objects (knives, slicers etc)
  • Exposure to cleaning chemicals and fumes
Work Schedule

Monday - Friday 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. (30 minute lunch).

Reporting schedule and lunch are subject to be changed by the Director of SNS.
