Job summary

Select Specialty Hospital - Pittsburgh is seeking a Student Nurse Tech (Future Registered Nurse) for per diem/PRN shifts, offering a 4 x 12 hour cycle every 6 weeks. You will support nursing staff in a critical illness recovery environment and gain diverse, hands-on experience aligned with nursing education and NCLEX preparation.

You must be enrolled in an accredited nursing program (ADN or BSN) and provide proof of completion of the first year.

Qualifications

• Current enrollment in an accredited nursing program (ADN or BSN) and proof of completion of the first year.
• Knowledge of basic nursing techniques and aseptic practices.
• Ability to communicate effectively, follow instructions, and maintain good relations with staff and patients.
• BLS certification required upon hire.

Responsibilities

• Obtain vital signs, height, weight and demographic data.
• Assist patients with daily care such as bathing, oral hygiene, shaving and hair care.
• Assist with urinary catheter removal, finger stick blood sugars, bladder scans, and specimen collection.
• Remove peripheral IVs as directed by RN (excluding higher locations).
• Deliver meals and snacks and document oral intake.
• Turn and position immobile patients and participate in mobility programs.
• Transport patients to designated areas as needed.

Position: Student Nurse Tech (Future Registered Nurse)

Location: Select Specialty Hospital - Pittsburgh

Schedule: Per Diem/PRN, 4 12 hr shifts every 6 weeks Compensation: $20.00 per hour, plus shift differentials for nights and weekends

• Assist with urinary catheter removal, finger stick blood sugars, bladder scans, routine urine and stool specimen collection, ostomy care and emptying drainage receptacles/tubes


• Remove peripheral IV’s as directed by RN (may not remove any IV’s located in antecubital fossa or higher)


• Deliver meals and snacks, feed patients who are unable to feed themselves and document oral intake


• Turn and position immobile patients safely while maintaining proper body alignment; participate in mobility program


• Transport patients to designated areas, such as to and from various treatment centers

Qualifications

• Current enrollment in an accredited nursing school (ADN or BSN program) - must provide proof of completion of the first year/fundamentals of nursing (or equivalent)


• Knowledge of basic nursing techniques and procedures and aseptic practices


• Requires the ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, to follow written and verbal instructions, and to maintain effective working relations with others including patients, families, physicians and other hospital associates.


• BLS certification required upon hire
