Job summary

Regency Hospital in East Chicago, IN, is seeking a Student Nurse Technician (Future Registered Nurse) for a Per Diem role. The position requires active enrollment in an ADN or BSN program and proof of first-year fundamentals completion.

You will assist with vital signs, daily care and various nursing tasks under RN supervision. This role offers hands-on experience in a critical illness recovery setting, with potential for advancement and a supportive orientation program.

Qualifications

• Current enrollment in an accredited nursing school (ADN or BSN) with proof of completion of the first year/fundamentals (or equivalent).
• Knowledge of basic nursing techniques and aseptic practices.
• Ability to communicate effectively, follow instructions, and work with patients, families, physicians and hospital staff.
• BLS certification required upon hire.

Responsibilities

• Obtain vital signs, height, weight and demographic data.
• Assist with personal and daily care (bathing, oral hygiene, shaving, hair care).
• Assist with urinary catheter removal, finger stick blood sugars, bladder scans, urine/stool collection, ostomy care, drainage containers/tubes.
• Remove peripheral IVs as directed by RN.
• Deliver meals and snacks and document oral intake.
• Turn and position immobile patients and assist mobility.
• Transport patients to designated areas and treatment centers.

• Assist patients with personal and daily care, such as bathing, oral hygiene, shaving and hair care
• Assist with urinary catheter removal, finger stick blood sugars, bladder scans, routine urine and stool specimen collection, ostomy care and emptying drainage receptacles/tubes
• Remove peripheral IV’s as directed by RN (may not remove any IV’s located in antecubital fossa or higher)
• Deliver meals and snacks, feed patients who are unable to feed themselves and document oral intake
• Turn and position immobile patients safely while maintaining proper body alignment; participate in mobility program
• Transport patients to designated areas, such as to and from various treatment centers

Qualifications

• Current enrollment in an accredited nursing school (ADN or BSN program) - must provide proof of completion of the first year/fundamentals of nursing (or equivalent)
• Knowledge of basic nursing techniques and procedures and aseptic practices
• Requires the ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, to follow written and verbal instructions, and to maintain effective working relations with others including patients, families, physicians and other hospital associates.
• BLS certification required upon hire
