Job summary

RUSH Specialty Hospital in Chicago, IL is seeking a Student Nurse Technician (per diem) to support nursing teams with patient care and basic duties. You must be enrolled in an ADN or BSN program and provide first-year nursing fundamentals proof. BLS certification is required by hire.

Compensation is $23 per hour with shift differential for nights and weekends. The role offers hands-on experience, orientation, and potential advancement within a supportive team in a critical care setting.

Qualifications

• Must be enrolled in an accredited nursing program (ADN/BSN) and provide proof of completion of the first year/fundamentals of nursing.
• BLS certification required upon hire or within orientation period.
• Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, and staff.

Responsibilities

• Assist with basic nursing care and daily activities for patients.
• Obtain vital signs, height, weight, and demographic data.
• Turn, position, and mobilize immobile patients safely.
• Deliver meals and assist with feeding; document intake.
• Assist with urinary catheter removal, finger-stick glucose checks, bladder scans, and specimen collection.
• Support with IV removal where directed by RN and maintain aseptic technique.
• Transport patients to treatment areas and help with mobility programs.
• Maintain clear written and verbal communication with the healthcare team.

• Assist with urinary catheter removal, finger stick blood sugars, bladder scans, routine urine and stool specimen collection, ostomy care and emptying drainage receptacles/tubes
• Remove peripheral IV’s as directed by RN (may not remove any IV’s located in antecubital fossa or higher)
• Deliver meals and snacks, feed patients who are unable to feed themselves and document oral intake
• Turn and position immobile patients safely while maintaining proper body alignment; participate in mobility program
• Transport patients to designated areas, such as to and from various treatment centers
• Knowledge of basic nursing techniques and procedures and aseptic practices
• Requires the ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, to follow written and verbal instructions, and to maintain effective working relations with others including patients, families, physicians and other hospital associates.
