Job summary

Barnes-Jewish Hospital at Washington University Medical Center in St. Louis is recruiting an enrolled RN student to participate in foundational nursing skills and clinicals within a Magnet-recognized environment.

You will work under the direction of registered nurses, assist with patient and family education, ensure supplies are ready, and help implement direct patient care while learning essential clinical competencies in GI/GU service and ERAS practices.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in an accredited RN program.
• Completion of fundamental/foundation course and clinicals.

Responsibilities

• Assists nurse with patient and family education. Documents all patient care activities provided with correct medical terminology. Acts as 1:1 patient safety sitter as necessary.
• Ensures availability of supplies and equipment to meet each patient's needs.
• Implements direct patient care under the supervision of the nursing team.
• Collects clinical data and information on patients and reports abnormal findings to the nurse.
• Instructs patients in preparations for tests and procedures.

GI/GU Service is consistently ranked in the top 20 in the nation by U.S. News & World Reports. We care for a diverse population of patients needing colorectal and urology surgery. We are leaders in providing Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) care. Our surgeons are leading the way in refining surgical procedures and non-operative techniques, to reduce pain, complications, and to improve outcomes. We are a 38 bed surgical unit with a goal of providing excellent care to all of our patients. Our average nurse to patient ratio is 1:4. Role Purpose

Provides multi-skilled, direct patient care, under the direction and supervision of a registered professional nurse. This job requires completion of a foundational nursing skills course or equivalent (fundamentals, foundations, or adult/peds health.
