Job summary

Stormont Vail Health in Topeka, KS is seeking a part-time Student Nurse Tech to support the care team under the direction of a Registered Nurse. You will assist with delegated patient care tasks and maintain a safe environment for patients.

Must be enrolled in the first semester of an accredited nursing program with at least 1 year of customer service experience; direct patient care is preferred. BLS/RQI is required within 90 days of hire.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Obtain verbal report from patient’s nurse and relay pertinent information to staff promptly.
• Follow nurse instructions on ambulation and redirection of patients as needed.
• Position and observe patients continuously to ensure safety.
• Provide patient comfort, safety and satisfaction.
• Assist with patient intake and mobility under RN guidance.
• Record data accurately and notify nurse of changes.

A Brief Overview

This student team member is a part of the care delivery team under the direction of and assistive to, a Registered Nurse to provide delegated, direct patient care intervention, including the performance of non-sterile procedures. Responsible for providing a safe environment for assigned patients; to complete the assigned work; to monitor the patient for changes in condition and to report those changes to the RN/LPN.

Education Qualifications

• Must be enrolled in their first semester in an accredited nursing program.

Experience Qualifications

• 1 year Customer service experience. Required
• Direct patient care experience. Preferred

What you will do

• Obtains verbal report from patient’s nurse to include information regarding identified care needs, diagnosis, communication barriers, and special considerations (NPO, bed alarms, suicide precautions, etc.). Communicates pertinent patient information to appropriate staff in a timely manner.
• Obtains instruction from nurse regarding ambulation limitations and course of action for redirection of patient if needed.
• Positions self in patient room continuously observing patients behavior and activity. Never leaves the patient alone or out of sight unless specifically instructed by the nurse.
• Provides patient comfort, safety and satisfaction.
• Student Nurse Techs are restricted from performing any RN license tasks.
• Assist with patient intake as directed by the nurse.
• Assists in ambulating and positioning patients as directed by the RN.
• Assist with lifting and movement of patients to chairs, gurneys, beds, etc, as directed by the nurse.
• Keeps work area clean and well organized.
• Accurately and legibly records data collected as necessary and notifies nurse of any condition and/or behavior changes.
