Summary of Primary Function/General Purpose of Position

The Student Nurse provides direct patient care under the guidance of the Registered Nurse or designated healthcare professional in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations and within the policies, procedures, and guidelines of Bon Secours Mercy Health.

Essential Job Functions

• Supports the nurse in the application of the nursing process under the direction of the RN.
• Develops critical thinking skills through collaboration with the RN to ensure quality patient care delivery.
• Seeks educational opportunities related to nursing practice and critical thinking.
• Provides basic patient care, including care and comfort, recording vital signs, personal hygiene, mobility, and unit-based specialty duties.
• Acts as liaison between patient and nurse to report changes or concerns.
• Provides high-level customer service to patients, families, visitors, and staff.
• Documents patient care accurately, precisely, and in a timely manner.
• Participates in hand-offs and reports pertinent information regarding patient and departmental needs.
• Performs delegated tasks once competency has been validated.

Education

HS/GED (required)

Currently enrolled in an RN nursing program with at least one completed clinical nursing course and rotation (required).

Certifications

BLS (preferred)

Training

Must have completed First Clinical Rotation as an RN Nursing Student. EPIC Electronic Health Record (EHR) training (preferred).

Work Experience

Recent experience in acute or long-term care facility (preferred).
